The Story of God

The Story of God

The Bible is a family history. It is the shared story of our ancestors in faith. The Bible traces their challenges and triumphs and journeys, and gives us insight into our own.  Some of our ancestors are admirable, some despicable. Most are a strikingly human combination of goodness and sin.

The Bible is the story of our God. Actually, there are a lot of stories about God, but the Bible is the only compilation that we share with God's people across the millennia and around the world. What makes the Bible special?
It is one long love story, told in 66 books: the revelation of Yahweh's ongoing love and faithful relationship with our people.

The Bible begins with Genesis and ends with Revelation, but God's love story doesn't end there.  God loved us so much that Jesus -- God in flesh, the Son of God and Mary -- came to live among us.  Through Jesus, God's love is manifested in each of His followers. That means each of us -- every last one of us, even you -- is a living chapter in God's great love story.  Through our lives God's love is revealed to the world.

The church season of Lent begins February 17. Lent is a time of soul-searching and spirit-training, when we immerse ourselves in the humanity of Jesus. We hear His story. Through Him we come to know our own humanity, as God's love is re-inscribed on our hearts.

This Lent, we have the opportunity to write down our chapter of God's great love story. For six Friday nights, writer Lisa Francesca will lead a workshop on writing your spiritual autobiography.  We will learn to see God's love in our lives, and to record how our lives reveal God's love to the world.

We are writing into our shared history with our lives. Let us be written by the light of God's love, poured out into the whole world through Christ.
