Campbell UCC newsletter for the week of June 27, 2004 "Letting go is like releasing a tight spring at the core of yourself, one you've spent your whole life winding and maintaining." Men of the church are needed 6. Ministry opportunities 7. Sunday message available online 8. Being Christian and Pro-Gay -- a forum 9. Lectionary readings for July ------------ 1. Our email newsletter begins now! Sandy White, our office manager, will send out the newsletter by email on a regular basis. If you have something for an upcoming issue, or if you would like to receive the newsletter by email, send the information to newsletter@campbellucc.org. Print copies will be mailed to members and friends without email. 2. This month's dinner provided by Laurie Valerga, Cathy Valerga, Leslie Oberhelman and Audrey Pecsok was perhaps the first time we served ALL lasagna casseroles! Each one was a bit different from the others and the 11 women and 6 children seemed to enjoy them all. Sheila made a wonderful Mediterranean Salad and Audrey gave yellow carnations for decoration. Cuttings from the bougainvillea tree by our church entry provided color on all the dining tables. The women were delighted with the various cosmetic bags (found at Rummage Sale 2004) as well as all the lovely travel size toiletries that many of you have given me. For those of you who are baking casseroles, please know that we now have five non-stick 9 X 12 pans in the kitchen in addition to the smaller, deep foil ones. Please see me if you have questions. 3. On June 27, we installed our new Council. Please keep Larry Edson, Hollie Parker-Winzenread, Rusty Winzenread, Susan Hough, Ken Engdahl, Jerry Spradlin, Bob O'Connor, Ken True, and Angie Jaggars in your prayers as they enter this new ministry. 4. During the summer our children enjoy guest teachers in Sunday School. Can you spend one hour this summer with our children, sharing the love of God -- and perhaps a story? Contact Lyn Jenichen at 266-0231 to find out more about this important ministry. 5. The men of the church are needed by the children! This summer, we'd like to have an August Friday evening event where the men of the church and the children of the church share dinner, games, maybe a movie, and some prayer. The same evening, the women of the church will have a sunset beach supper -- and would probably be willing to return the favor! If you would like to participate in either the children's ministry or the beach event, please contact Elane at pastor@campbellucc.org. 6. Our ministry of welcome is looking for people to set up coffee and tea on Sunday mornings. Many families try on churches during the summer, so it's important to be ready to welcome them. If you can set up coffee and tea one Sunday morning, please sign up in the sanctuary foyer. If it's your first time and you'd like some guidance or help, just write "first time" next to your name. 7. The Sunday message is now available in writing online at http://www.campbellucc.org/. The monthly calendar of events is also available, so log on regularly. 8. Our sister church, New Community of Faith, is sponsoring a theological forum entitled, "A Welcoming Faith: Three Pro-Gay Christian Theologies." The forum will take place on Saturday, July 12, from 10-noon, with lunch to follow. The panel will explore the range of Christian theologies and positions available to those who already believe that Christ welcomes all, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people. Theologies explored range from evangelical to liberal (mainline) to progressive, and have quite different view of Scripture and the nature of God. For more information, call New Community of Faith at 408-253-1408, or email Rev. Bran Scott at ncfpastor@sbcglobal.net. 9.
