Preparing for new life: Lent
When the challenges of his life were before him, Jesus drew nearer to the heart of his God. Through prayer, fasting, and self-examination, Jesus refreshed his soul and clarified his purpose.  Jesus' followers are given the same opportunity during the weeks before Easter. This season, known as Lent, strengthens us for our struggles, and prepares us for the new life that is Easter.

Palm Sunday (March 16): Worship at 10 AM
On this day the Church celebrates Christ's entrance into Jerusalem to accomplish his divine task. "Entrance" is the key. We enter into Jerusalem with Christ. We enter into our holiest week. We enter into our final preparation for the Easter feast. The Gospel proclaimed on this day is one of the accounts of the betrayal and crucifixion of Christ.

The Easter Triduum
Holy Thursday evening through Easter Sunday morning, we remember the three days when Christ was crucified, buried and resurrected.  This three-day event dates from the third century of Jesus followers.

Holy Thursday (March 20): Meal & Worship at 6:30 PM
The Remembrance of the Last Supper is a meal of communion: with each other, with Christ, and with the ancient memory that it is Christ that unites us in one body. We hear and heed Jesus' admonition to remember him, and to serve one another.

Good Friday (March 21): Experiential Worship at 7:30 PM
Good Friday is a day of fasting and prayer. When we worship, there are no greetings, opening songs, processions, or alleluias. We simply come to experience those moments of passionate love of Jesus for each of us, and for the world.

Holy Saturday (March 22): Vigil from 9 AM until noon
We gather for a vigil, with communal prayer, song, and sacred Scripture readings.  We are purposefully "keeping awake" at Jesus' tomb. We gather; we wait; we watch. We wait with the generations of those longing for Christ to rise from the tomb.

Easter Sunday (March 23): Worship at 10 AM
Jesus lives, and we are reborn! It is the feast of joy, celebration, and new beginnings!
Simpler Living Covenent Groups: THERE'S STILL TIME TO SIGN UP!
Go Green!Have you ever wanted to simplify your life and care for the earth, but not known where to start? Starting February 10th, we will form covenant groups using "Simpler Living, Compassionate Life" as our study guide and resource. This book is a collection of essays from many voices that will help us to explore "voluntary simplicity as a path to wholeness and abundance" and will serve as a "practical guide for creating simplicity in our own lives, our communities and for the benefit of our planet". We are choosing a 6 week series that will not utilize the whole book but will be selective of chapters that will focus on the theme of "Simplicity in Personal, Everyday Life".  We will weave personal action steps to care for God's Creation into the weekly series. You can check out the book at coffee hour (or here) and sign up to find out more.

Covenant groups now forming:
  • Wednesday Evenings (open)
  • Thursdays 3:30 - 5:00 (women only)
  • Sundays 6:00 - 8:00 (women only)
  • Sundays 6:00 - 8:00 (open)
Sign up after worship, or email Pastor Bran at revbran@sbcglobal.net
Faithbooking - February 23rd
Scrapbookers: we will be meeting on February 23rd, from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. in the Fireside Room.  Come and work on the Faithbook you started last year, finish up another scrapbook project, or start a new one.  Everyone is welcome - seasoned scrappers and those just wanting to check it out. For more information, contact Teresa Lewis at tlewis959@sbcglobal.net
Dive - Wednesday, March 5th - 7:30 PM
Dive: A deeper worship Join your brothers and sisters in an experiential worship service of music, prayer, and contemplation. This is an opportunity to dive deep into the heart of God with your brothers and sisters in Christ and spend quality time with the God who spent quality time with us in the incarnation of Jesus.

Starting at 7:30 PM, we will hang out together, sing together, pray together, hear God's Word together, and enjoy space and time for individual prayer at the cross.

Bring all of you, to be refreshed by all of Him
Spring Campus Workday - March 8th

From the pen of John Rodgers: Little Hands, Big Hands, ALL HANDS are needed March 8th, from 9 AM - 1 PM!  You will be fed - both physically and spiritually!  We will begin the day with donuts, coffee, and prayer, and we'll close out our day with pizza and salad for lunch.

The biggest project is to fix the leak in Nelson Hall.  This will require leveling the dirt in front of Nelson Hall, digging to find the crack in the foundationm, sealing the crack and pouring cement.

While those with the strong backs are working on the Nelson Hall leak, we need others to do some painting.  There is a lot of weeding and trimming to be done in the flower beds to get them ready for Easter.  Additionally, we have 4 dead trees on the property that need to be cut down.  We will be planting new trees to replace them.

We need 2 or 3 people (who are not afraid of heights) to replace several burnt-out spot lights at the front of the Sanctuary.  This task will require moving the 32-foot extension ladder and climbing up to the spot lights.

If you are a lumberjack, a painter, an acrobat, or are able to dig a hole, we can use you on Saturday, March 8th.  So, load up those shovels, paint brushes, gardening implements, and other tools, along with the kids, grandparents, aunts and uncles and head to the church for fun, laughter, fellowship, and work.

John Rodgers will have a sign up sheet for you to volunteer.  If you have any questions contact John at 408-378-4418 or at john@campbellucc.org.
Family Game Night - March 14th
Mark your calendars!  Given the rousing success of last December's Campbell UCC Family Night, we are happy to announce another evening of fun-filled fellowship. Everyone is welcome to come hang out in the Sanctuary Friday, March 14th from 6:30 - 9  PM.  We'll have a potluck dinner, boardgames, and a movie.

Real Faith for Real Life

You want to know how big God's love is? The answer is: It's very big. It's bigger than you're comfortable with. We're invited more deeply into this mystery on a daily basis, to be here as one-of; a mess like everyone else, and not in charge. That's why we hate it.

Anne Lamott, The Carpet Guy
