You have been delivered!

Celebrate deliverance!

If you have felt doomed to failure, to fear, or  some other brokenness -- you're not! T
hrough Christ, you are assured of abundant life and are far from doomed!

Our Easter Celebration is this Sunday, March 23, at 10 a.m. Bring a friend to our Easter celebration -- and to the possibility of new life!
Holy Week -- Remembering the Last Days

The Easter Triduum
Holy Thursday evening through Easter Sunday morning, we remember the three days when Christ was crucified, buried and resurrected.  This three-day event dates from the third century of Jesus followers.

Holy Thursday (March 20): Meal & Worship at 6:30 PM
The Remembrance of the Last Supper is a meal of communion: with each other, with Christ, and with the ancient memory that it is Christ that unites us in one body. We hear and heed Jesus' admonition to remember him, and to serve one another.

Good Friday (March 21): Experiential Worship at 7:30 PM
Good Friday is a day of fasting and prayer. When we worship, there are no greetings, opening songs, processions, or alleluias. We simply come to experience those moments of passionate love of Jesus for each of us, and for the world.

Holy Saturday (March 22): Vigil from 9 AM until noon
We gather for a vigil, with communal prayer, song, and sacred Scripture readings.  We are purposefully "keeping awake" at Jesus' tomb. We gather; we wait; we watch. We wait with the generations of those longing for Christ to rise from the tomb.

Easter Sunday (March 23): Worship at 10 AM
Jesus lives, and we are reborn! It is the feast of joy, celebration, and new beginnings!

Growing Green Ministry Event: Lights Out and Fun On!

Go Green! On 31 March 2007, 2.2 million people and 2100 Sydney businesses turned off their lights for one hour: Earth Hour. This massive collective effort reduced Sydney's energy consumption by 10.2% for one hour, which is the equivalent effect of taking 48,000 cars off the road for one hour.  Inspired by the collective effort of millions of Sydneysiders, many major global cities are joining Earth Hour in 2008, turning a symbolic event into a global movement.  You can read more about this movement at http://www.earthhour.org

As part of this global event on Saturday March 29, 2008 at 8 pm,  we will be turning out the lights at Campbell UCC!
Join us for an hour of candlelight, contemplation, stargazing, and fun!  More details soon!
Recital - Sunday, March 30th
The teaching arm of the Campbell UCC Music Ministry will present a recital immediately after Worship on Sunday, March 30th.  Please stick around after Coffee and Conversation and support our students!    For more information, please contact Cheryl Forest Morganson at 415-902-1276.
Hats 'n Chat - March 31st
Calling all knitters (and wannabe knitters)!

Before the weather warms up too much, let's get a head start on knitting hats to give the men of the Montgomery Street shelter in their Christmas bags. On Monday March 31 from 7pm to 9 or so in the Fireside Room, there will be yarn, needles, patterns and experienced instructors available.  Rumor has it cookies and lively conversation are also likely. Bring the whole family! Questions? Call Susan Hough at 737-8192 or e-mail susan@campbellucc.org.
Beginning March 30

No More ChristiansJesus wasn't a Christian. He never asked anyone to
become a Christian.
He just said:
Follow me.

If you're a Christian, it's time to rethink what that means.
If you're not a Christian, don't become one. Follow Him instead.
Sundays, March 30 - May 4, 10 a.m.
Bring a friend.
Dive - April 2nd -- New Time!!
Dive: A deeper worship Join your brothers and sisters in another first Wednesday deep Worship service of music, prayer, and contemplation. This is an opportunity to dive deep into the heart of God with your brothers and sisters in Christ and spend quality time with the God who spent quality time with us in the incarnation of Jesus.

Starting at 7 PM, we will hang out together, sing together, pray together, hear God's Word together, and enjoy space and time for individual prayer at the cross.

Bring all of you, to be refreshed by all of Him
The Basics of Following Jesus in Community

We believe that our real lives can be faithful -- and that we can be faithful and still be real.
It's about spiritual practices integrated into daily life that form us into the people God intends us to be. That's discipline.
It's also about living in close relationships of support and accountability with others who are following Jesus. That's church.

Our basic Real Faith for Real Life (RF4RL) class is "RF4RL: The 6 Marks". Join with others to learn (or relearn!) the six spiritual practices that are fundamental to following Jesus: prayer, worship, reading Scripture, serving, relating, giving.  RF4RL: The 6 Marks begins the week of April 13.

If you've been testing the waters of our church community, it might be time for you to dive in!  The 2-part Member Orientation is held on Saturday mornings, April 12 and May, with RF4RL: The Six Marks in the middle. Come and find your place at Campbell UCC.

For more information on either RF4RL: The Six Marks, or Member Orientation, contact Pastor Elane.
Growing Green Ministry
Leap into Spring - Go Three for Three for Creation Care!

The Green Ministry is sponsoring three opportunities in the next
5 weeks to care for God's creation:

On Saturday, March 29th, bike, walk or carpool to campus at 8:00 p.m. for Earth Hour. Earth Hour is a global movement to reduce energy consumption by turning off the power for just one hour. From 8:00 to 9:00 (and maybe longer!) we will star-gaze, sing songs, laugh and play games together - all while stewarding God's precious resources. (www.earthhour.org)

On Saturday, April 12th, join the team participating in the City of
Campbell Community Cleanup
. Spend your morning working
side-by-side with your brothers and sisters to make our wider
community clean and safe for all God's people. Watch for a sign up
sheet and more details on Easter.

On Saturday, April 19th, recycle your e-waste between 9 and 12
right here on campus. To find out more about what items can be
recycled, visit http://westvalleyrecycles.com/serviceareas/singlefamily-universalwaste.html. The Green Ministry has invited
WestValley to use our campus as an e-waste collection site on a quarterly basis. To expand your creation
care, invite your friends, neighbors and co-workers to recycle their
waste, too. Email information and paper reminders to forward to
friends will come your way soon.

Can you go three for three for God's creation this spring?

Ongoing Ministries and Opportunities
Faithful Followers needs recipes!
From the pen of Mary Alice Edson: Our women's study group, Faithful Followers, is planning to do the Relay for Life in Campbell in July. We plan to put together a cookbook to help raise funds as part of our contribution.  We are seeking recipes from the Congregation to fill this cookbook!  Ideally, we'll have all the recipes in hand by April 30th in order to have time to assemble the book.

Please contact me if you want to help us with your favorite recipe!

The Worship Team needs YOU!

Come learn about all those fancy-schmancy dials and levers in the back of the Sanctuary! We are looking for people to operate our sound and visual projection systems during Worship.  No experience is necessary; we'll teach you all that you need to know.

If you are interested in volunteering or know someone who might fit the bill, please contact John Rodgers at 378-4418 or by email.

We are also looking for creative people to help develop Worship art and graphics.  It would be helpful if you knew a little about PowerPoint or had experience with any major graphics program. People with strong visual or artistic skills who are unafraid of learning are also most welcome! Contact Pastor Elane for information.

Shelter Dinner Updates - Errata
The main office apologizes for the delay in these reports going out - we had a technological problem that has since been fixed.

January Shelter Dinner Report

I continued the holiday theme this month by decorating all the dining room tables with red, white & green fabric chains.  The group of 20 women & 6 children enjoyed a delicious meal thanks to Pam Warriner, Evelyn Brooks, Mary Alice Edson, Ray Pollock & Linda Lucitt.

Our dinner featured lasagna, tortilla casserole, chicken tetrazzini & tamale pie.  Juices & mini croissants were also on the menu.  The many sweet-toothed individuals were satisfied with brownies from Ray & an assortment of holiday candies from various folks.  Several hair care products from Patt Wandry, a friend of Mary Corchero's, filled our notions basket along with cosmetic bags and many travel size samples of lotions.

February's Shelter Dinner will be prepared by the members of Isabel Circle.  It is extremely helpful to me if people could sign up now for coming months.  Having sign-ups ahead of time enables me to better plan the dinners.

Thanks to all who assist with this ministry.  I wish you all many blessings in this New Year.

February Shelter Dinner Report

The dining room tables were beautifully decorated with various colors of camellias sitting on white paper doilies setting a Valentine theme for the evening.  In addition to five late plates, we served 26 women & 12 children in the dining room.  It was quite a lively group!

My sincere thanks to Isabel Circle members who prepared the entire meal this month.  Casseroles of chicken tetrazzini, lasagna, baked ziti & super supper were the main courses, and tossed green salad, French bread & apple juice rounded out the meal.

Valentine desserts of brownie bites, heart-shaped sugar cookies, chocolate chip cookies & assorted candies were a special treat.  Isabel Circle members gave Valentine cards to the children, and the women were treated to handmade knit hats in prints & solid colors made by Mae Nakamura.

I am proud each month to represent members & friends of this church who take the time to make our monthly Shelter Dinners a reality - God bless you all.

Shalom,

Angie Jaggars

Real Faith for Real Life

Jesus's resurrection makes it impossible for man's story to end in chaos - it has to move inexorably towards light, towards life, towards love. - Carlo Carretto

Christianity is in its very essence a resurrection religion. The concept of resurrection lies at its heart. If you remove it, Christianity is destroyed. - John R. Stott
